Are Oysters Aphrodisiacs?

Since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, oysters-particularly raw oysters-have been considered Aphrodisiacs.  Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beautify, pleasure and procreation, is said to have risen out of the ocean on an oyster shell (some say scallop shell but who’s quibbling). Casanova was said to eat at least fifty oysters a day.  While anecdotal evidence of the stimulating power of oysters is incredibly strong, scientific evidence is a little more sparse.  Oysters contain a very high amount of zinc and certain amino acids, both of which are linked to the production of hormones that make us feel randy. In the end you be the judge (just don’t use it as a pick-up line).
